Since its inception in 2006, the Run 4 Downtown has been committed to assisting in the revitalization of the Downtown community in Middletown New York.
To date, we have donated in excess of $100,000 toward that goal. Some of our highlights include the following major projects.
Run 4 Downtown Park at 13-15 North Street. The park that now hosts the Equilibrium Brewery Post Race Party was once a poorly defined space with broken sidewalks and dead grass. In 2011 the R4DT contracted with a local craftsman to remove the sidewalks and stairs leading to the East Main Street Parking lot. These were replaced with a beautiful bluestone staircase, pavers throughout the park and new grass and lighting.
The stage in Run 4 Downtown Park. When the City of Middletown brought music to Run 4 Downtown Park in the summer of 2013, a temporary stage was built for the performers. In 2016 the R4DT again hired a Middletown-based company to build the permanent stage that now hosts the Middletown Summer Concert Series Thursday night performances.
The Clock in Run 4 Downtown Park. Also in 2016, the R4DT purchased and paid for the installation of the decorative clock that now serves as one of the City’s great Downtown treasures.
The Pavilion in Erie Way Park. The City of Middletown was able to build this new park on Union Street with the assistance of a Downtown Revitalization grant from New York State. There was not enough funding to complete the construction of the pavilion, now home to the Middletown Farmers’ Market, so the R4DT was able to contribute $60,000 towards its completion.
Fireman Joe at the corner of Depot and North Streets. This is our next goal.
The Middletown Fire Department is raising $100,000 to restore this historic statue and we have committed to raising $25,000 toward that cause.
